Carnege (tha̍k Kha-ni-jih, Andrew Carnege, 1835~1919) sı̄ Bí-kok ê kǹg-thih tāi-ông kap chû-siān-ka. I jı̄n-ûi hó-gia̍h lâng ê chek-jı̄m sı̄ thè siā-hoē tāi-chiòng chō-hok. I sè-hàn ê sı̂ tio̍h chin khiáu. Ū chı̍t piàn I kap I ê a-bú khı̀ chı̍t keng koé-chí tiàm. I khoàⁿ-tio̍h chı̍t láng eng-thô chin âng, chin pá-tı̄ⁿ, chiok hó-chia̍h ê khoán. I khiā tı̄ hit láng eng-thô hia ba̍k-chiu kim-kim khoàⁿ, khoàⁿ kàu kiōng-beh lâu chhùi-noā. Koé-chí tiàm ê thâu-ke khoàⁿ--tio̍h, tio̍h kā i kóng: “Gín-á hiaⁿ, lí nā kah-ı̀, phóng chı̍t phóng khı̀ chia̍h, bián sè-jı̄.” M̄-kú, Carnege kan-taⁿ tiām-tiām khiā tı̄ hia, lóng bô tōng-chok. Koè chı̍t-ē-á, thâu-ke kā i mn̄g: “Kiám kóng lí bô siūⁿ beh chia̍h?” Carnege ı̀n kóng: “Beh--no͘h, goá chiok siūⁿ beh chia̍h !” “Nā án-ne, lí iáu teh kheh-khı̀ sím-mı̍h?” Carnege iû-goân bô chhut chhiú khı̀ the̍h. Soah-boé, thâu-ke ka-kı̄ chhut chhiú phóng chı̍t toā phóng hō͘--i. Carnege kā i soeh-siā liáu, tio̍h kap in a-bú choè-tı̄n tńg--khı̀. Kàu chhù liáu-āu, in a-bú mn̄g i sı̄ án-choáⁿ ná ē iau-kúi ké sè-jı̄? Carnege án-ne kā in a-bú hoê-tap: “Goá bô iau-kúi ké sè-jı̄. Goá chai-iáⁿ thâu-ke ê chhiú-poâⁿ pí goá ê khah toā chin chē, i ê chı̍t phóng siōng-chió mā ū goá ê 3 phóng hiah chē !”
